Get a seat

ValeriaMessalina

Gender-neutral. Well read. Terribly curious.

History gave my namesake a reputation. I gave her a dinner party.

The idea

Rome had long dinners. We have small talk.

For a few hundred years, the best people in the world lay around a table, ate too much, drank good wine, and said the things everyone else was too careful to say.

Then we traded all that for scripts: who should wear what, who should touch whom, who's allowed to want anything. I think that trade was a bad one. So I'm bringing the table back. The nerve, not the togas.

Photo 1You at a table, faceless. Neutral tailoring, a wine glass in hand, warm low light. Portrait, 4:5.

In vino veritas.

In wine, the truth.

House rules

The table has four rules.

I

Humans first.

I come dressed neutral, because that's what being a person looks like to me. You come however you like. Nobody here is playing a role.

II

Touch is human.

We were all taught to ration it. A hand on a shoulder, a hug that lasts a second too long. I think that rule was one of the saddest things we inherited.

III

Restraint is cinematic.

The best scene in any film is the one where nobody moves yet. A held glance beats a speech every single time.

IV

Curiosity beats certainty.

The best people at any table are still finding out what they think. Bring a question, not a position.

Try the table

Pull a question.

Course oneWhat did you decide, early on, that you weren't allowed to want?

Carpe noctem.

Seize the night.

First time?

How this works.

Never done this before? Perfect. Here's every step, so the only surprise is how good the evening is.

  1. You write to me.Tell me who you are and the life you lead. I read every letter. Keep it elegant; anything explicit ends the conversation.
  2. I screen you.Screening is part of the charm, and it's a little different for everyone. A recent provider reference or a short video call with work verification is all I need. If there's very little about you online, I may also ask for a government ID.
  3. We talk.Twenty minutes on a private channel. Logistics first, then the good part: I tell you a little about what I love, and you tell me what would make it unforgettable, and what would disappoint you.
  4. You place a deposit.Your date is held. You'll know the city right away and the room on the day. I like a little suspense.
  5. We meet.I choose the room; you'll only notice how good it is. The wine is chosen before you arrive.

Rules are always in place. They're why everyone relaxes, during and long after.

No expectations. Nothing is owed. The pace is ours, and it's always respectful.

The second evening is always better. Ask anyone who's had one.

I'm selective now. I've been around long enough to only say yes to people I'm curious about, and I'm grateful for every one of them.

This is rare, on purpose. I don't advertise anywhere. You found this, which already says something about you.

Time with me

A seat at my table.

An hour with me is a drink, a conversation and the best company you'll keep all month. What I offer is my time, and I spend it well.

HowOne hour, somewhere beautiful. Longer if the conversation earns it.
WhoCurious, discreet adults. Screening keeps the table worth sitting at.
WhereNew York, and wherever the table travels next.
Answers
You were going to ask.
Who are you, really?

Someone who was handed the full rulebook early: how to dress, how to sit, who to want. I read it carefully, found most of it boring, and kept only the good wine. These days I run a busy life by day and host the most interesting hour of your week by night.

Why Messalina?

Rome's most gossiped-about empress. Everything we know about her was written by men who didn't like her. I thought she deserved a better party.

Do I have to dress a certain way?

No. I'll be in something neutral and well cut. You come as yourself. Nobody at my table is playing a part.

What if I'm shy?

Even better. Shy people ask the best questions once they warm up, and I'm very good at the warming up.

Where do we meet?

A beautiful bar or hotel lounge I choose. You'll get the city when we book and the exact place on the day.

How do I get a seat?

Write to me below with two provider references, or ask for work verification. Once you're screened, we'll get on a short call to talk through expectations: what I'm comfortable with, what I'm not, and what you need to feel at ease and private. Then a deposit, and you're in.
